Dragons Den Winner at NLCC Networking Lunch

The North London Chamber of Commerce is delighted to bring some inspiring success stories to north London businesses at our upcoming Secret to Success: Celebrating Women in Business Networking Lunch, taking place at beautiful De Vere Theobalds Park on the 3rd February 2010, 10.30am – 2.30pm. The lunch will be precluded by morning coffee and presentations.

Karen Peters of KCO Ice Skating Ltd will provide some excellent business tips inspired by her businesses success story: Iceblading is a new concept of ice skating without ice!  KCO Inline Ice Skating is the first company in the UK to produce a ‘dry ice-blade’ which allows participants to perform the skills and manoeuvres normally associated ice skating, off the ice. 

Karen Peters and Karen Coombes developed the revolutionary skate, which is ideal for children and adults who may not have access to a rink, as it enables skating on any flat, hard surface -including sports halls, dance studios, playgrounds and car parks. The blades have a rockered wheel alignment, that enables the skater to turn smoothly and a simulated toe rake, which allows for spins and jumps, which can’t be achieved with normal inline skates.  Experienced figure skaters also find the dry ice blades perfect for practicing off ice - saving expensive rink time.

The company started trading in September 2008 and within one year it has already had considerable success - attracting £100,000 equity backing from Theo Paphitis following the Directors’ appearance on Dragon’s Den.  The product has been accredited and endorsed by the National Ice Skating Association and the owners have secured 1 year funding from Islington Council to run Iceblading programmes in primary and secondary schools in North London.

The owners are already receiving interest from ice rink operators to use iceblading as an alternative service to ice skating over the summer months - for example melting the ice and putting on iceblading instead which would make significant savings on gas.
